The LeSourdsville Water Reclamation Facility is located between Hamilton and Middletown in southeast Butler County and discharges clean water to the Great Miami River.

The LeSourdsville facility treats wastewater from homes, businesses and industries in the cities of Monroe, Hamilton, Trenton, and Fairfield, and Madison, Lemon, and Liberty townships. The plant serves more than 50,000 people and treats about 8 million gallons of wastewater every day.

The People

Eight state-licensed operators are responsible for operating the LeSourdsville plant 24 hours a day.

The LeSourdsville facility also houses operations staff for the entire BCDES system. Process control staff work to optimize BCDES’s wastewater treatment operations and the collections team maintains the sewer system for our entire service area. Maintenance, mechanics, electrical and instrumentation staff keep our equipment functioning. The laboratory staff also performs analysis on internal processes and products for all BCDES treatment plants.                           

 History

•  1977—The original rotating biological contractor plant began operations. The plant had a design flow of 4 million gallons per day.
• 1990—Plant improvements, including a small oxidation ditch, expanded the capacity to 6 million gallons per day.
• 1992—BCDES upgraded the digester and solids handling.
• 1995—The plant’s design flow was expanded to 12 million gallons per day.
• 2006—BCDES began planning the next expansion for LeSourdsville. We should complete the master plan in 2007.
