EMS ELEMENTS
BCDES EMS Elements
In general, the EMS helps the Department manage biosolids in ways that are: environmentally sound, technically feasible, cost effective, and socially acceptable.
BCDES has developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) for its biosolids program according to the specifications of the National Biosolids Partnership (NBP). The NBP's voluntary EMS program is similar in scope and function to ISO 14001, except that it focuses solely on biosolids management. The Biosolids EMS is a management tool being utilized by BCDES to meet and surpass regulatory requirements, improve environmental performance, implement best management practices, and gain public confidence and acceptance in its biosolids "beneficial re-use" program.
